About Me

I was born in Madison, but grew up in Darlington WI, a small town in Southern Wisconsin surrounded by honest ethics, and the hard working solid values inherent in a small farming community. I have had a nonstop passion for “building” things since childhood, and worked on construction projects in High school. While attending the U.W. Platteville, I worked for the “Engineering” department doing construction work for the University. This passion of over 40 years became a launch pad for a career filled with experiences in almost every aspect of Real Estate, more specifically, HOMES. Add to that my entrepreneurial spirit, and my aggressive quest for doing it right the first time and constant goal of improvement, and you have the recipe for Jim on Homes!

In 1986 I became a licensed Real Estate agent and started my successful career as a Realtor that continues today.

In 1992 I began inspecting homes and formed my original Inspection Firm, “Home Tech”.

In 1993 a partner and I formed “Steven James” construction, which was a general construction company, and “Tuscany Custom Homes and Remodeling”, Our New Home division.

In 1997 the partnership ended, and I became the sole owner of Tuscany. While Tuscany has been through many changes over the years, I have always been the “Builder”, and today I have taken the all of the quality, service and craftsmanship to an even higher standard, as a smaller, more hands on custom home company called Exceptional Homes by Tuscany, LLC.

In my lengthy career, I have also developed other “HOME” related companies such as, Tuscany Investment Properties, LLC which managed my personal portfolio of income properties. Additionally, I created “Cobra Construction” Which was a framing, and finish carpentry company who worked on Tuscany buildings as well as worked for many other builders. I also created several Development Entities such as Tuscan Ridge Development, LLC, Belladonna Development LLC, 10 Oaks Development LLC, which were the development companies behind such projects as Tuscan Ridge Condominium Homes. I also created and developed Suburban Storage and Warehousing LLC. a large storage facility which included a variety of storage options from mini warehouses to climate controlled, out door, and business incubator products.

With the tough economic times and all of my companies being Real Estate related, I have slowed down my pace dramatically, and am truly enjoying working with clients on a “One on One” basis again. I have found that being personally involved and building face to face relationships in much more rewarding than managing what was rapidly becoming a mini empire. The one result of my vast experience and long history in the “HOME” business, is quite simply…. Jim Knows Homes!

Today I own Wisconsin Home Inspection Associates, LLC. where we perform a variety of home inspection and consulting services. I continue the career I began in 1986 as a Realtor, through Restaino & Associates, Realtors. I also own and Exceptional Homes by Tuscany, LLC. which I started in 1993. Additionally, I also consult to businesses, and speak on a wide range of topics.
